Response of Hybrid Bermudagrass and Manilagrass to Soil Moisture Using Water-table Depth Gradient Tanks

چکیده

Previous research involving turfgrass response to soil moisture used methodology that may compromise root morphology or fail control outside environmental factors. Water-table depth gradient tanks were employed in the greenhouse identify habitat specialization of hybrid bermudagrass [ Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers. × C. transvaalensis Burtt-Davy] and manilagrass Zoysia matrella Merr.] maintained at 2.5 5.1 cm. Turfgrass quality (TQ), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), canopy temperature (CT), biomass (RB) as metrics for plants grown monoculture sandy clay loam soil. Mowing height did not affect growth species moisture. quality, NDVI, RB greatest, whereas CT was lowest wetter levels [27- 58-cm water-table (DWT)] each tank where growing above field capacity. However, greatest 27-cm DWT, DWT lower than 42.5- 73.5-cm 2013 all other 2014. Both responded similarly droughty (120- 151-cm DWT) tanks. lowest, highest higher levels. Bermudagrass be more competitive when is high both are less low.

Coupled stochastic dynamics of water table and soil moisture in bare soil conditions

[1] The soil water content plays a fundamental role in a number of important environmental processes, including those involved in the water cycle, vegetation dynamics, soil biogeochemical cycles, and land-atmosphere interactions. Despite the recent efforts spent in the analytical modeling of the stochastic soil moisture dynamics in dryland ecosystems, the probabilistic characterization of the s...

Assessing Relation of Soil Hydrophobicity and Soil Water Content and Determining Threshold Moisture of Organic Soil Samples

Soil water content is the most effective factor associated with the hydrophobic and hydrophilic changes in a soil. Water repellency in soils, is not a permanent feature; it can be reached in the dry season and reduced or eliminated in the wet season It can be said that in terms of moisture, there is a critical region that is defined as the threshold moisture content, where in lower moisture, th...

Dynamic modeling of root water uptake using soil moisture data

In this work a dynamic model of water uptake from plants growing in naturally vegetated areas subjected to a rainfall and evaporation time series is described. The model results are compared and contrasted with popular pre-existing models. Also, the effects of the uptake pattern on the movement of water across multiple soil layers are also analyzed. The results showed that contrary to common mo...

Monitoring soil moisture and water table height with a low-cost data logger

Comprehensive temporal data sets are often needed in geosciences to understand and model environmental phenomena. Time series data sets in the geosciences have traditionally been captured by costly commercial sensors and data loggers ($100–1000s). Dedrick et al. (2000) presented a less costly ($10 s) and publicly available device known as the Hobart and William Smith Data Logger (HWSDL) (Halfma...

Mesquite Root Distribution and Water Use Efficiency in Response to Long-term Soil Moisture Manipulations

This study quantified honey mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa) root growth and water use efficiency following chronic soil drought or wetness on a clay loam site in north Texas. Root systems of mature trees were containerized with barriers inserted into the soil. Soil moisture within containers was manipulated with irrigation (Irrigated) or rain sheltering (Rainout). Other treatments included conta...
